Agricultural Sector and Industrial Agglomeration∗

چکیده
In many developing countries, agriculture hires at least as many workers as manufacturing industries. We investigate an economic geography model in which agricultural goods are costly to transport and in which manufactures hire labor from the local agricultural sector as unskilled labor. Our conclusions show that the parameters in the agricultural sector are crucial to determine the spatial configuration of economic activity. We provide an analytic treatment to the model. The location equilibria are compared with the first and second best outcomes. JEL classification: R12; R13; O18

Industrial Location and Local Incentive Policies in Brazil: na Empirical Investigation
The paper econometrically investigates the determinants of industrial agglomeration in 2001, taking as reference recently developed measures. The considered explanatory variables comprised sector-level variables and local infrastructure and incentive policies variables. The evidence showed that variables reflecting input utilization and knowledge spillovers at sector-level had important impacts...
متن کاملThe rise of the 'emerging economies': Towards functioning agricultural markets and trade relations?
Agglomeration spill-over benefits are a major driver of policy creating industrial and science parks across the world. However, agglomeration benefits can be offset by competition arising out of the spatial proximity of firms. In this paper we examine the impact of agglomeration and selection on Taiwanese firms' total factor productivity (TFP) distribution and show that agglomeration causes the...

This research aims to analyze the effects of industrial agglomeration on regional economic growth in the Iranian provinces. For this aim, this study is divided into theoretical and applied sectors. In the theoretical point of view, the research has proposed a simple theoretical framework to study the impacts of industrial agglomeration on regional economic growth. In applied sector, we have...
متن کاملPollution Havens and Industrial Agglomeration
Pollution-intensive industries are generally characterized by imperfect competition, increasing returns to scale and large transportation costs. We investigate two countries, N and S, each with two sectors. Manufacturing generates cross-border pollution which reduces agricultural production. Firms can freely move across country borders, but not workers. First, we show that pollution lowers loca...

This study estimates an econometric model that incorporates the linkages among agriculture, manufacturing, service and trade sectors using a vector error correction model for Poland and Romania. Three cointegrating vectors for Poland and one for Romania confirm that the different sectors in the Poland and Romania moved together over the sample period, and for this reason, their growth rates are...
